Knut Larsson, born 1972, is a comic book creator, illustrator and visual artist. Knut Larsson debuted in 1996 in the magazine Galago, and his first graphic novel Canimus came in 2001. Since then he has published several books, such as Lokmannen (The Engine man) (2003), Kolonialsjukhuset (The Colonial Hospital) (2006), Krokodilstaden (City of Crocodiles) (2008) and Dödens ö (Ile of the Dead) (2020).
Larsson’s peculiar image world is often embossed by surrealism, dreams and bizarre actions. His comic adaption of Harry Martinson’s space opera Aniara (2015) was noticed for its retro-futuristic aesthetics, as well as for its melancholy appearance in gray.
Knut Larsson has also worked with animated film, and in 2004 the commercial short for Majblomman (Mayflower) was awarded the advertising industry’s price Guldägget. In 2014, he wrote and directed Hypnagogia – Send me the pillow that you dream on, a 29 minutes short film.
In 2016, Knut Larsson was awarded the Adamson statue. His work has been shown on several exhibitions around Europe.
Quotes about Knut Larsson
I find Knut Larsson’s visual language extremely fascinating and absolutely unique. Crystal clear and evocative, wistful and humorous, anxious and tender, and above all very, very sensual in the broadest sense of the word. You can only give thanks and receive. – Roy Andersson
You have to choose. Cry or laugh. Knut Larsson’s comics are schizotainment from hell. I choose hysteria. – Carl Johan De Geer
